Visa Exemption (60 Days) – Thailand
Visa-free entry, conditions and length of stay (2026)
What is the Visa Exemption (60 Days)?
The Visa Exemption allows nationals of 93 countries (including USA, UK, Canada, Australia) to enter Thailand without having to apply for a visa in advance. It is the simplest solution for tourist stays of less than 2 months (since the mid-2024 reform increasing it from 30 to 60 days).
Who is this exemption for?
Compatible Profiles
- • Tourists on vacation (2-3 months max).
- • Short family visits.
- • Occasional medical appointments.
Incompatible Profiles
- • Long-term remote workers (Refusal risk).
- • People wishing to settle down.
- • Local workers (Strictly forbidden).
Length of stay and validity
Main conditions and criteria
- Passport valid for at least 6 months upon arrival.
- Confirmed onward/return ticket within 60 days (often required by airlines).
- Proof of sufficient funds (10,000 THB/person, rarely checked but mandatory).
- Not being on the Blacklist.
Work and authorized activities
Prohibition of Work
Visa exemption is a strictly tourist status. It is strictly forbidden to work (even as a volunteer) in Thailand with this status. Discrete remote work is tolerated for very short periods, but risky over the long term.
Renewal and extensions
You can extend your stay once for 30 days at the local immigration office (cost: 1,900 THB). To stay longer, you will have to leave the country (Visa Run) and re-enter, but beware: immigration limits the number of land entries (2 per year) and monitors aerial abuse.
Limitations and points of vigilance
Boarding refusal
If you do not have a return/onward ticket within 60 days, the airline may deny you boarding from your home country. Consider renting a ticket or buying a flexible one if your plan is unclear.
