DTV Documents Checklist 2026

Required Documents for the Thailand DTV Visa

The complete list of supporting documents by profile — updated February 2026.

The DTV (Destination Thailand Visa) requires a solid application to be approved. Documents vary depending on your profile: remote employee, freelancer, active retiree, or artist. Here is the complete checklist adapted for international applicants to maximize your chances of approval.

Common Documents for All Profiles

Valid Passport (6+ months remaining)
At least 2 blank pages. Copy of the identity page + all pages with Thailand stamps.
ICAO Standard Passport Photo (4×6 cm)
White background, taken within the last 6 months. Standard passport size photo without glasses.
Signed Application Form
Submitted officially via the Thai E-Visa system (thaievisa.go.th) or local embassy.
Financial Proof: 500,000 THB (~$15,000 USD)
Bank statement for the last 6 months formally issued by your bank (e.g., Chase, HSBC, BofA, Barclays). The balance equivalent to 500,000 THB must be consistently maintained — no last-minute massive deposits.
Travel or Health Insurance covering Thailand
Minimum coverage equivalent to $50,000 USD. Recommended options: SafetyWing, Genki, Cigna Global, Allianz. The policy MUST explicitly state coverage in Thailand or Worldwide.
Clean Criminal Record Certificate
Issued by your home country (e.g., FBI Background Check for US, ACRO for UK, AFP for Australia). May need to be apostilled or notarized depending on the embassy.

Specific Documents by Profile

Employment Contract with Remote Work Clause
Your employment contract or an official addendum clearly stating you are authorized to work remotely from abroad. Must be in English or officially translated.
Employer Certificate (Company Letterhead)
A letter signed by HR or management confirming your position, permission to work remotely from Thailand, and continuity of salary. Must explicitly name you and the company.
Last 3 Payslips
Showing consistent salary transfers matching your bank statements.
Latest Tax Return (e.g., IRS Form 1040, HMRC P60)
Proves your declared annual income in your home country.

Freelancer / Independent Contractor

Business Registration / Freelance License
Proof of active status (e.g., LLC Certificate of Formation, EIN Letter, Sole Proprietor registration, Companies House Extract, Trade License).
Last 6 Client Invoices
From at least 3-4 different clients showing regular activity. It's recommended to show a steady stream of income for 'remote digital services'.
Business Bank Statements
Checking accounts showing matching invoice deposits over the last 6 months. Must be official bank PDFs or stamped.
Professional Portfolio (PDF, 10-15 pages)
A visual presentation of your background, skills, completed projects, client testimonials, and website links. Crucial for developers, designers, writers, marketers, etc.

Active Retiree / Digital Senior

Pension Statement (Social Security, 401k, State Pension)
Latest annual notification from your pension fund or government body (e.g., SSA.gov, HMRC, Superannuation).
Latest Tax Return
Proof of declared pension income and any supplementary revenue (rental, dividends, capital gains).
Motivation Letter
Explaining your interest in Thailand: planned activities (volunteering, cooking/Muay Thai classes, cultural exploration). Keep it to 1 page.
Proof of Accommodation
Hotel/Airbnb booking for the first few months, or a signed lease agreement in Thailand.

Artist / Content Creator

Creator/Artist Registration Number
Your official tax ID or union membership (e.g., Screen Actors Guild, Musician's Union, national artist registry).
Artistic Portfolio (PDF or Links)
Gallery of your work, YouTube channel with analytics, Behance/Dribbble profile, professional Instagram. Minimum 10 pages for a PDF.
Proof of Creative Income (6 months)
YouTube/Twitch earnings, Etsy sales, creation contracts, commissions, copyright royalties (e.g., ASCAP, BMI, PRS). Invoices or royalty statements.
Thailand Project Letter (Recommended)
Description of your creative project tied to Thailand: photo report, book writing, documentary, artistic residency. Strongly reinforces the application.

Specific Tips for International Applicants

  • Certified Translation: All non-English/non-Thai documents MUST be translated by a certified court translator.
  • Criminal Background Check: Apply early. FBI checks or local police certificates can take weeks to process.
  • Bank Statements: Do not use screenshots. Request officially stamped statements from your physical bank, or verified digital PDFs.
  • Visa E-system: Apply from the country where you have legal long-term residence. You cannot apply for an E-Visa while physically inside Thailand.
  • Taxation: Thailand taxes remitted foreign income if you stay more than 180 days in a calendar year. Consult a local tax advisor.
